Prof. Ritu Gaur
Dr. Yuvraj K.C. was awarded a Ph.D in May 2024 under the supervision of Prof. Ritu Gaur from the Faculty of Life Sciences and Biotechnology. He has been selected for a post-doctoral fellowship at the National Cancer Institute in Frederick, Maryland, USA, starting in July 2024.

Prof. Ritu Gaur from the Faculty of Life Sciences and Biotechnology’s Virology Laboratory, in collaboration with Dr. Devashish Sengupta and Dr. Oishee Chakraborti, has achieved a significant milestone in their research, successfully receiving approval for a substantial grant of INR 8995282.00 under North Eastern Region-Biotechnology Programme scheme under the Department of Biotechnology. This grant has been approved for the project proposal entitled “Synergistic Photoactivated Antineoplastic and Anti-HIV1 Activities of Biocompatible Reduced Graphene Oxide (rGO) or Graphene Quantum Dot (GQD) Functionalized Tetrapyrrolic Macrocycles (TM@GOs & TM@GQDs)” (BT/PR51457/NER/95/2003/2023), enhancing the potential impact of their research.

The first paper, titled “Pyramiding D-lactate dehydrogenase with the glyoxalase pathway enhances abiotic stress tolerance in plants,” is authored by Nazmir Binta Alam and is published in the journal “Plant Physiology and Biochemistry” with an impact factor of 6.5.

The theme of the conference was Solving Through NCCN 2024 Evidence-based Guidelines. The theme of the school is “Psychophysiology of Neurological Disorders – Genomics and Non-Genomics Perception” and organized by the Neuroscience Society of Nepal. Prof. Rajiv Saxena, the Dean of Faculty of Life Sciences and Biotechnology and Vice President of SAU has been awarded Rs.25 million research grant by the Nano-Sciences Mission of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) of the Government of India. This research grant for which DST would be used to study the interactions of carbon nanotubes and other nano sized particles with the cells of the immune system. The project would specifically focus on alterations of nano-particle uptake by immune cells upon activation with antigens or upon oncogenic transformation and would facilitate devising ways of therapeutic drug targeting to cells of the immune system. About 60% of the grant money will be used to establish a “Confocal fluorescence microscopy research facility” at SAU.

Prof. Rajiv K. Saxena, Dean, FLSB, has been awarded the prestigious “JC Bose National Research Fellowship” by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The Fellowship is for the duration of 5 years during which Prof. Saxena will receive the fellowship of INR 25,000 per month and a contingency amount of INR 10,00,000 every year for travel and other expenditures.

Dr. Sai Ramani Garimella
Dr. Sai Ramani was invited by the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg to deliver a lecture at the the IFSH Research Colloquium at the Institute, Beim Schlump, University of Hamburg, Hamburg on the 10th of July, 2013. The lecture was on the topic “South Asia – Violence against the marginalized”. The lecture was about the legislative intervention against caste-based violence in the three countries of Bangladesh, Nepal and India.
Dr. Pankaj Jain
Dr Jain, Associate Professor, FMCS was invited to conduct “Summer School on Numerical Analysis and Applications” by the Department of Mathematics, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal during June 24-29, 2013. During the school, Dr Jain delivered a 25-hour course consisting of series of lectures and computer hands on. Dr. Luther M. Rangreji
Dr. Rangreji has been appointed Member (Expert) of the Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee (GEAC) of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India for a period of three years. The GEAC is a Statutory body for approving GE proposals involving large scale use of hazardous living microorganisms and recombinants in research and industrial production from the environmental angle and the release of genetically engineered organisms and products into the environment, including experimental field trials. Prof Saxena’s research proposal “Modulation of erythroid line of differentiation and erythrocyte turnover in mouse model of autoimmune hemolytic anemia ” has been approved for funding by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Science & Engineering Research Board, India.
